  4. <p>Modern all-out warfare can be broadly split into two classifications: conventional (maybe with chemical, biological and some tactical nuclear weapons), and full nuclear war. The latter is increasingly unlikely in the more enlightened climate of recent years, but the strategic bomber and missile crews stand ready for the unthinkable. For the bombers, an all-out assault would involve B-1Bs penetrating the defenses to deliver free-fall and short-range weapons, while B-52s would launch cruise missiles from safe distances, leaving the weapons themselves to thread their way through to their targets. ICBMs would be launched against larger preprogrammed targets such as airfield and industrial complexes, their accuracy being less than the air-launched weapons.
